About the Symposium

The 13^th Asia-Oceania Group on Earth Observations (AOGEO) Symposium provides a regional forum to bring together the GEO community in Asia-Oceania (AO) to exchange scientific and technical views on Earth observations (EO) and their applications for regional and global priorities, as well as report on tasks in AOGEO. It is organized by Japan’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), with support from the GEO Secretariat.

Theme of the Symposium

“Enhancing the well-being of people in the Asia-Oceania region through Earth observations in the face of COVID-19 impacts ― design and implement future steps for Earth observations to realize global agendas, i.e. international policy linked to the GEO engagement priorities”.

Topics of Discussion
Under the theme, the discussions focus on the results and future steps of the AOGEO tasks by featuring emerging topics on:

• 1) EO response to the needs of monitoring and achieving the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (SDGs),
• 2) capacity development, data and knowledge sharing in the AO region,
• 3) engagement with Pacific Islands Countries and Territories, assessing COVID-19 impact as a cross-cutting issue.
